What is IoT Readiness?
The IoT Readiness Score measures how prepared your water infrastructure is to connect to a real-time digital monitoring system — often called the Internet of Things (IoT) or a Smart Water Network.
Think of it as a report card showing how much groundwork has been completed before live sensors, automated alerts, and remote monitoring can be switched on. A score of 100% means the site is fully equipped and connected. Most sites build toward this over time as data is captured and systems are integrated.
This score was developed by Siza as part of the J000600 Digital Twin Programme to give asset owners a clear, objective view of where each site stands on its journey to full digital integration.
Top 3 Reasons We Are Gathering This Data
01
Prevent Failures Before They Happen
Real-time sensor data detects abnormal readings — pressure drops, pump vibration, flow anomalies — and alerts operators before a breakdown occurs. This shifts maintenance from reactive to predictive, dramatically reducing downtime and emergency costs.
02
Optimise Energy & Operating Costs
Water treatment is energy-intensive. Connected systems identify which assets consume more energy than expected, when pumps run inefficiently, and where processes can be automated. Municipalities typically achieve 15–30% energy savings after full IoT integration.
03
Regulatory Compliance & Audit Trail
DWS and water boards require accurate, timestamped records of treatment performance and maintenance activity. A connected asset register provides an automatic, tamper-proof audit trail — reducing compliance risk and simplifying annual reporting to regulators.
How the Score is Calculated
Six components are scored independently and averaged to produce the final percentage.
| Component | What it measures | This site |
| Geo-referencing | % of assets with RTK GPS coordinates captured | |
| Asset Registration | % of assets fully recorded in the digital register | |
| Condition Data | % of assets with an assigned condition grade | |
| 3D Digital Twin | Matterport / reality capture scan completeness | |
| SCADA / Connectivity | Existing site SCADA infrastructure and network access | |
| Data Integration | SCADA/sensor data actively feeding the digital twin | |
